Welcome to the Raw experiment!

I am a flaky, laid back, head in the clouds kind of girl that has reached an ultimatum. Live in chronic pain or take control and live the definition of health. So I am starting a raw foods lifestyle. These are my experiences, my achievements, and my failures. It is also my motivation to finally feel what health really is...

2 weeks and 2 days in...

So I guess my most epic fail of the past few weeks into raw territory is my lacking of blogging. I am doing this to help track my progress and I am failing at it... So to catch up... Day one through three: I went full raw. Thats how I am-when I get an idea I cant just do it gradually and simply...oh no. I have to go at it 100%. This was not only a good learning experiance for me but taught me a valid life lesson. Give yourself a break! My body hated only raw foods. I was shaky, foggy headed, and my stomach was so empty it hurt. I wanted bread...cheese...I was dreaming about it! Finally I did more reading on other peoples experiances I decided to cut myself some slack. "Work your way into it. Dont worry if you are not 100% raw. All you need is 75%" all these gave me what I needed to do this right. I mean I am trying to change my lifestyle and that is going to take a lot of time. Day four on: I have started running. I love it. I have never been a runner, in fact I was always the slow fat kid in school so running has a deeper more emotional negativity to it. But while fat morgan still haunts my thoughts a newer morgan has taken over and she is one determined woman. I run alone (for now) and I listen to my best "fuck you" music. That is how I have learned to target my anger issues. Run it out. Make your workout your protest. (hey it works for a Taurus!) As far as food, I wake up in the morning and drink water. A lot of it. Then onto making a green smoothie! Green smoothies are made of mostly blended veggies and a little fruit to sweeten it. I also throw in a lot of wheatgrass that I grow in my kitchen. This concoction is super tasty and will help satisfy cravings for more salty solid substances. But take my warning! The texture...it takes some getting used to. Dont expect a smoothie feel. It is more of a puree feel...I like it now but it was a little shocking the first time 'round. Lunch is when I give myself a little bit of a break. So...cooked food : ) Mostly vegan or vegetarian. I cut myself breaks once in a while and will eat meat. I partly let myself do this because I want my body to be able to handle anything that comes our way while we are traveling in Thailand for our honeymoon. I learned about eleven days into this that "splurging" on things like a burger is NOT okay. I have never felt so sick! My body didnt know what to do with itself so it rejected everything! ewwwww.... So I splurge simply. Today I had an awesome salmon and barley rice meal with a salad. Soooo yummmmy! Dinner time is back to raw. A nice salad (but you have to be careful with dressing picking!) Luckily there are a lot of awesome raw recipes online that help you not get boring and repetitive for dinner time. Did I mention this lifestyle ROCKS for sushi lovers!?!? Sans rice technically but I am not that picky! Two weeks and two days later here I am. My body is finally over the detox stage (or at least I hope) and today I woke up for the first time in about five years without aches and pains! I have been in constant pain for a long time now and I am in awe how my body feels right now! My migraines have been down and my energy has been up. It. is. awesome. Not to mention I am almost ten pounds lighter than when I started. Now dont get too excited. This is no miricle diet or anything. Those didnt just melt off...the detox stage is no walk in the park. That weight leaves your body somehow and the raw food put it on the express train. (get it? you shit. a lot.) So there it is. From the start of it all to the now. Lets hope the awesomeness keeps going. Until next time.

The start of it all....

I have always lived with health issues. I could not tell you how many things over my life I have been diagnosed with. All had a pill to treat whatever I had. With all the pills I have put in my body over the years you think I would be healthy but alas...I have still struggled with health my entire life. After the birth of my son in 2008 my health problems seemed to increase even more. I was tired all the time, my whole body aches, I have severe hives, IBS, and migraines with TMJD. Pretty much I feel like a mess all the time. Finally after years of constant and different diagnoses a doctor suggested I may have something called fibromyalgia. It was unreal and relieving to think that maybe I am not sick with everything but have one serious issue that can be treated. Sadly due to the way our system is set up I lost health care coverage and never got my official diagnoses but all the research I have done says the same thing. Fibromyalgia or not I HAVE to get a hold of my health. As a massage therapist and yoga instructor I understand health and have always taken care of my body and I was getting fed up with still feeling ill all the time. What else could I do? I worked out, I ate pretty good, and I am happy. Then I came across a wonderful film: Food Matters (*GASP* it does!?!?)
The whole film preached everything I have ever thought about health but with more of a raw approach. It makes so much sense! With a raw foods diet, supplements and a healthy lifestyle I wont only help my fibromyalgia but also live without the need of doctors and medical intervention. Sounds pretty great when health insurance is not an option.
So here I go! A new lifestyle for what I hope feels like a new me. It will be hard since I tend to jump between dietary lifestyles but hopefully this blog will help keep me on track. It will be hard, crazy and very very raw but it will also be (at least I hope) totally worth it....
